The New York University men's tennis team defeated Hobart College 8-1 on Saturday, March 25, at the Stadium Tennis Center in the Bronx.
In doubles play, the Violets (4-2) picked up wins from sophomore
Benedict Teoh and freshman
Michael Li (8-5) at #2 doubles and from senior
Matt DeMichiel and freshman
Zeb Zheng (8-6) at #3.
NYU then dominated singles play, as senior Umberto Setter (6-2, 2-6, 6-2), Teoh (6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (4)), DeMichiel (3-6, 6-3, 6-1), Li (6-2, 6-3), and freshmen
Vishal Walia (7-6 (2), 6-3) and
Xavier Pacthod (6-1, 6-4) earned victories at #1-6, respectively.
"Hobart came out strong in doubles, but we responded and were able to win two of three," said NYU Head Coach
Horace Choy. "From there, our guys settled in and swept the singles matches."
OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:
- Setter and junior
Samuel Khoshbin lost a close 7-6 (3) match in #1 doubles to Alan Dubrovsky and Jonah Salita.
- Pacthod's win at #6 singles was the first singles victory of his NYU career.
The Violets are back in action tomorrow for Senior Day against the University of Rochester at the Stadium Tennis Center in the Bronx. The match is scheduled to begin at 10:00 am.
