ECAC Tournament Information
The New York University women's basketball team extended its 2016-17 campaign with a 74-49 victory over Marywood University in the opening round of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship on Wednesday, March 1, at the Brooklyn Athletic Facility in Brooklyn, NY.
Lauren Brown led the way for NYU with a career-high 23 points on a perfect 10-for-10 shooting from the field in only 19 minutes off the bench.
"That was a pretty good performance," said a smiling Head Coach
Lauren Hall-Gregory. "She has great athleticism and aggressiveness. She played composed with the ball in her hands and made some great decisions. What a great spark plug for us off the bench."
The Violets (14-12) broke the game open early. After falling behind the Pacers (18-9) by a score of 5-4, NYU ran off the next 17 points and took a 21-7 lead after the first quarter.
Marywood pulled within 10 on two occasions early in the second quarter before the hosts extended their lead to as many as 23 points, 37-14. The Violets went on to take a 37-19 advantage at the halftime intermission.
NYU continued the onslaught in the third quarter and finished the session with a game-high 36-point lead, 63-27.
The Pacers scored the first six points of the final stanza and got as close as 24, 71-47, as NYU cruised to the 25-point victory.
"Having played in the NCAA Tournament the last three years, I just didn't know how our upperclassmen would take this," Hall-Gregory admitted. "But, they showed how excited they were to play in the postseason."
STAT CITY:
- Brown also led the Violets with six rebounds.
-
Amy Harioka and

NYU will now compete in the ECAC Quarterfinals, which will be held at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA, on Friday, March 3. The Violets will face Springfield College (19-8) at 5:00 pm.
"Springfield is a tough, physical, well-coached team who we've played three years in a row," Hall-Gregory explained. "It'll be an intense, physical game for sure."
