Columbia Vassar
The New York University women's fencing team won one of two matches at Columbia University's Historical Meet on Wednesday, February 15, in Manhattan.
The Violets began with a loss to host #2 (NCAA.com) Columbia (3-24), but rebounded with a 16-11 victory over Vassar College.
Freshman
Oliwia Szumilo led the way for the Violets. The Staten Island, NY, native finished with a 4-1 record in sabre. Additionally, sophomore
Hannah Bennett and freshman
Rachel Yuen went 3-3 in epee and foil, respectively.
"I though we did a very good job tonight," said Head Coach
Steve Mormando. "After losing to Columbia we rebounded well in defeating Vassar. There have been a lot of positives this season."
OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:

Jacqueline Tubbs went 2-2 in sabre to improve to 37-23 on the season.
- Junior
Stephanie Cunningham went 2-2 in epee.
The Violets are back in action on Tuesday, February 21, against Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ.
