The New York University women's fencing team went 1-6 in dual meets at the Sacred Heart Tradition Multi-Meet on Sunday, December 3, in Poughkeepsie, NY.
The Violets started out the competition with losses to Penn State University (23-4), Princeton University (24-3), Harvard University (22-5), the University of Pennsylvania (19-8), Temple University (20-7) and Sacred Heart University (14-13). However, NYU ended the day with a convincing 23-4 victory over host Vassar College.
Freshman
Tiffany Luong led the way with a 14-7 record in foil.
"Tiffany fenced incredibly well," said NYU Head Coach
Steve Mormando.
OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:
- Junior
Jacqueline Tubbs (8-6) and freshman
Sabrina Zhao (9-11) performed well for the Violets in sabre.
- Senior
Marissa Posner finished 7-14 in epee to lead NYU.
"I'm so proud of this team," added Mormando. "Even if the results did not show it, they had a lot of grit and did a great job against some of the best teams in the country."
The Violets are back in action for the National Senior Curcuit on Friday-Monday, December 8-11. Play is scheduled to begin each day at 9:00 am.
