The New York University women's basketball team fell to visiting SUNY Oneonta 63-61 on Sunday, November 26 at the Sportsplex in Manhattan.
Oneonta remains undefeated through four games, while the Violets drop to 3-2 this season.
The big difference in the contest came at the foul line as the Red Dragons made 26 free throws (26-for-32; 81.3%), while the Violets hit just three (3-for-5; 60.0%).
Teresa Aniken's foul shot with nine seconds remaining put Oneonta in front, 62-61, and marked the first time the visitors took a lead since early in the second quarter when Madeline Frank hit a pair of free throws to put the Red Dragons up 20-18.
NYU quickly retook the lead after the Frank free throws on a
Tori Reich foul shot and held the advantage until Oneonta closed the second half with six-straight points to tie the game at 32-32.
Kayla Patterson opened the second half with a layup for NYU and the Violets held the lead until Aniken's free throw with nine seconds remaining. NYU led by as many as seven points several times in the second half, including 57-50 after a
Kaitlyn Read three-pointer with 3:35 left on the clock.
From there it was all Oneonta as the Red Dragons closed the game on a 13-4 run.
Read led the Violets with 14 points and also dished out a career-high 10 assists. Patterson chipped in with eight points and a game-high 15 rebounds.
Samantha Lisikatos was one of three Red Dragons in double figures, finishing with a game-high 16 points.

NYU returns to the court on Wednesday when it hosts the College of Staten Island. Tip-off is slated for 6pm back at the Sportsplex.
