The New York University men's soccer team defeated visiting Baruch College 3-2 on Monday, October 9, at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.
The Violets (7-3-1) scored the game's first goal just 3:18 into the contest.
Inder Sharma took a long through pass from
Daly Tucknott and buried it past Baruch keeper Ante Lonic to give NYU the lead over the Bearcats (6-6).
The score remained the same until the second half when
Nic Notaro scored his first goal of the season at 53:43.
Ethan Uno sent a cross form the end line to the top of the box and Notaro converted it into NYU's second goal.
"We scored early, basically on our first chance and were able to set the tone," said Head Coach
Kim Wyant. "We came out strong after a disappointing weekend."
Less than three minutes later, at 56:26,
Maxi Rodriguez took a free kick and crossed it to
Marc Waldeck who finished the play by directing the ball into the back of the net.
Baruch mounted a comeback late in the game, as Christian Minich (72;17) and Dortion Alipaj (87:34) tallied to bring the Bearcats within one.
However, their rally fell just short.
"We made some changes and maybe got a little disjointed at the end," Wyant explained. "But, we had enough of a cushion to weather the storm."
HIGHLIGHTS:
-
Grant Engel (5 saves) started in net for NYU and was relieved midway through the second half by
Angello Lazar, who recorded one save and allowed both goals.
- All three NYU shots on goal resulted in scores.
The Violets return to action next weekend for a pair of University Athletic Association (UAA) road contests. The Violets face Emory University at 5:00pm on Friday, October 13, in Atlanta GA, then go against the University of Rochester at 11:00 am on Sunday, October 15, in Rochester, NY.
