Women's Soccer Draws in Atlanta

Violets Tie Host Emory 1-1

The New York University women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with host Emory University in a University Athletic Association (UAA) contest on Friday, October 13, in Atlanta, GA.

The Violets (7-3-2, 1-1-1 UAA) have now gone unbeaten in their last three contests.

Emory (7-4-1, 0-2-1 UAA) took the lead as Lily Dresner scored the game's first goal just 28 seconds before halftime.

However, the Violets came back almost immediately after the second half began, as Alex Benedict scored her team-leading fifth goal of the campaign at 47:34, knotting the game at 1-1.

The score remained the same after 90 minutes and headed into overtime.

Neither team managed a goal in the first 10-minute overtime, as NYU keeper Sophia Danielsen turned away three shots.

There were no shots on goal by either squad in the final overtime session, as the game ended in a draw.

"I'm extremely proud of the effort and intensity that our team brought to the game tonight," said Head Coach Michele Canning. "Every player who stepped on the field tonight put the team first and fought to make a difference."

STATS-RIGHT:

- Danielsen finished with nine saves, while Eagles' keeper Danielle Staffin had six.

- Benedict wound up taking four shots, with three going on net.

The Violets return to the field this Sunday, October 15, when they face the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY. Kickoff is set for 1:30pm.
