The New York University women's fencing team won one of its three matches at Columbia University on Sunday, January 22 in Manhattan.
The Violets defeated Wayne State University (17-10), but fell to the University of Notre Dame (22-5) and St. John's University (14-13).
Leading the way for the Violets were freshmen
Eileen Wang,
Oliwia Szumilo and
Audrey Edgington. Wang went 5-4 in epee (including a perfect 3-0 against Wayne State), while Szumilo and Edgington went 5-4 in sabre.
OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:
- Junior
Stephanie Cunningham and sophomore
Hannah Bennett also performed well in epee. Both fencers finished with 4-4 records on the day.
- Sophomore
Anastasiya Muravyeva finished with a 4-5 record in foil.
The Violets resume their schedule on Saturday, February 4, when they take on Harvard University in Cambridge, MA.
