The New York University women's fencing team won five of its six matches at the Philadelphia Invitational, which was hosted by the University of Pennsylvania on Saturday, January 21.
The Violets, who raised their record to 7-6 this season, defeated Fairleigh Dickinson University (20-7), Drew University (17-10), Sacred Heart University (20-7), Haverford College (22-5), and New Jersey Institute of Technology (23-4).
The Violets only loss of the day was against host UPenn, currently ranked #6 in the nation by
CollegeFencing360.com, by a score of 22-5.
There were several masterful performances displayed by the NYU fencers.
In sabre,
Oliwia Szumilo went 15-2, while
Jacqueline Tubbs went 13-2.
The foil team boasted three double-digit winners:
Anastasiya Muravyeva (14-2),
Rachel Yuen (13-5) and
Alisa Traskunov (10-8).
Eileen Wang led the epee team with a 10-5 record.
The Violets get right back on the strip tomorrow when they compete at Columbia University. NYU will face Wayne State University, the University of Notre Dame and St. John's University beginning at 9:00 am.
