The New York University women's soccer team, ranked #25 by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), defeated Farmingdale State College 2-1 on Wednesday, September 14, in Farmingdale, NY.
Teressa Fazio scored her team-leading third goal of the season to give NYU (4-1) a quick 1-0 lead. Her up-close unassisted tally came just 7:21 into the contest.
"Teressa is playing with a lot of confidence. That's really important for a forward," said Head Coach
Michele Canning.
The Violets doubled their lead when
Alex Benedict scored her first collegiate goal on a cross from
Charlotte Herbertz. She tickled the twines at 37:03 and NYU took its 2-0 lead into halftime.
"It sets a positive tone for the game when you can get on the board early," Canning offered. "It helps take the pressure off."
The Rams (0-4-2) battled back to cut their deficit in half on an unassisted goal by Alena Gannon at 53:32.
However, the visitors cut down all chances the rest of the way to hold on for the victory.
