Men's Soccer Draws Old Westbury

Match Ends With Score of 1-1 After 2 Overtimes

The New York University men's soccer team tied SUNY-Old Westbury by a score of 1-1 on Sunday, September 11, at Panthers Park in Old Westbury, NY.

NYU opened up the scoring just 6:35 into the contest when Evan Reifsnyder scored his first goal of the season after recieving a pass from Tristan Medios-Simon.

"Evan scored a beautiful one-touch goal on a cross from Tristan, who beat his defender," explained Head Coach Kim Wyant. "Tristan was dangerous many times today and they hacked him down every time he touched the ball."

The Violets were not on top for long, as Dominick Giudice equalized for the Panthers a little over eight minutes later.

"We played with much better intensity and desire from the first whistle," continued Wyant. "We were on every ball or fighting to win 50/50 balls."

The teams remained deadlocked for the remainder of regulation and throughout the 20-minute overtime period.

"We created two excellent opportunities in the extra time. We had very tired legs and they did not so I was proud of how we responded to the challenge." said Wyant. "Still, in the final third we need to be more consistent and we need to avoid conceding soft, sloppy goals."

Highlights:

- Medios-Simon's assist was his sixth point of the season. He ranks second on the squad (Petter Aasa, 7).

- Lucas Doucette made seven saves in net for the Violets.

- Freshmen Julian Montilus and Owen Smith led NYU with three shots apiece, including one each on target.

The Violets will be back in action Wednesday when they travel to the College of Mount Saint Vincent in Riverdale, NY. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00pm.
