Violets to Face Rochester on Sunday

The New York University women's tennis team was defeated by Brandeis University at the 2016 University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship, on Saturday, April 23, at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, FL.

The Violets (8-4), ranked #29 in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, fell to the #30 Judges (9-8) by a score of 7-2 in a reversal of NYU's 5-4 victory on March 13.

"As our men showed today against Rochester, it's hard to beat someone twice in one season," said Head Coach Horace Choy. "Brandeis came out with something to prove, and once they swept the doubles it was too big of a hole to climb out of."

Both of NYU's points were recorded in singles. Carmen Lai dominated in a 6-2, 6-0 win at #1, while Laila El Dessouki cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 result at the #4 position.

"Laila continued her good play at the championship and Carmen was able to bounce back with a win," continued Choy. "We have one one more match tomorrow and we expect to end the season with a win."

The Violets' season finale will take place against the University of Rochester in the UAA Championship's seventh-place match on Sunday at 9:00 am.
