The New York University baseball team (12-20) dropped a pair of contests to SUNY New Paltz (18-2-2) on Friday, April 22, at MCU Park in Brooklyn, NY.
Cameron Serapilio-Frank started game one on the mound for the Violets. The right-hander pitched three-plus innings, allowing three earned runs on three hits.
The game remained scoreless through the first three innings before New Paltz put three runs on the board in the top of the fourth inning..
NYU's offense then responded the following inning with an RBI groundout from
Colman Hendershot that plated
Jack Walter, bringing the score to 3-1.
The Hawks pulled away with three more runs in the sixth, and the Violets were unable to get anything going offensively as they fell in a 6-1 result.
In game two,
Chad Johnstone was NYU's starting pitcher, allowing three earned runs on four hits, while striking out three Hawks in five innings pitched.
"Our pitching, both starting and relieving, has been doing very well," said Head Coach
Doug Kimbler. "They are getting ahead of hitters and doing what we ask of them."
Unfortunately, the Violets could not get the bats going in game two either, falling 3-0.
"Hitting is contagious," continued Kimbler. "We need one guy to win a crucial at-bat. As a team, we need to concentrate much harder on those big at-bats."
GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS:
-
Sy Cohen went 2-3, his first two hits of the season.
-
Eli Edwards pitched a hitless inning in relief.
GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS:
- Walter and Spitz had the only two hits of the game.
- Both
Matthew Millus and
Jack Kurtenbach pitched scoreless innings of relief.
The Violets return to action Sunday, April 24, for a doubleheader at home against the College of Staten Island Dolphins. Game one is set to begin at 12:00 pm.
