The New York University men's tennis team suffered an 8-1 defeat against University Athletic Association (UAA) rival Case Western Reserve University, ranked #6 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), on the road on Saturday night, April 2, in Cleveland, OH.

"It's always hard to compete when you're shorthanded, especially against a top-ranked team," said NYU Head Coach Horace Choy. "However, I felt the guys rose to the challenge and competed well."

NYU (2-5) got its lone victory against CWRU (12-5) at third singles from Matt DeMichiel. The junior defeated his opponent Robert Stroup in three sets. DeMichiel came back from a tough first set in which he lost 6-0 to win the final two sets 6-2, 6-4.

Jiri Honajzer also had a tough match against his Spartan foe at fourth singles. The sophomore pushed Louis Stuerke to three sets after winning the second. Unfortunately, Stuerke took the third set in a 10-8 tiebreaker.

"We now have a very quick turnaround and a tough, early match tomorrow," continued Choy.

NYU will return to action tomorrow morning, Sunday, April 3, when it continues its Ohio road trip in Oberlin, OH. The Violets are scheduled to face #40 Oberlin College beginning at 9:00 am.
