Match Results
The New York University men's tennis team fell to Stevens Institute of Technology on Wednesday, April 13, in a close 5-4 match in Hoboken, NJ.
The Ducks (10-7) took just one doubles match against the Violets (3-7), but picked up four victories in singles plays.
In doubles, NYU registered victories from the duo of
Umberto Setter and
Shrikar Kundur (8-6 win at #2) and the combination of
Matt DeMichiel and
Benedict Teoh (8-3 win at #3).
"It was a hard-fought match, but in the end we lost a very tight one," said Head Coach
Horace Choy. "We got off to a good start in the doubles with wins at two and three. The singles, unfortunately, went back and forth until the end result of Stevens out on top."
Setter picked up his second victory of the day, defeating his opponent Charles Drake 6-3, 7-6 at second singles.
Yanik Parsch also had a victory, his coming over William Persson 6-4, 6-3, at sixth singles.
"We showed that we can compete at that top level," Choy added. "We just have to be better about closing out matches after a strong start."
NYU will return to action on Saturday, April 16, when it travels to face University Athletic Association (UAA) rival University of Rochester.
