The New York University women's tennis team, ranked #30 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), dropped a 5-4 decision to #19 Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY, on Sunday, April 10.
"The match was as close as the score indicated," said Head Coach
Horace Choy. "Two top-30 teams battled it out and Skidmore won a few more of the important points. We competed well but came up a little short."
At #3 doubles, the team of
Madeline King and
Nicole Schnabel picked up the Violets' only doubles point of the day as they posted an 8-5 victory.
NYU captured three out of six singles matches, with
Carmen Lai winning 12 of the final 13 games to post a comeback 5-7, 6-0, 6-1 result at #1 singles.
Vanessa Scott and
Alice McGinty picked up straight-sets victories at the #2 and #6 positions, respectively.
"We got strong play in singles from Carmen, Vanessa and Alice and good doubles play from Madeline and Nicole," continued Choy. "We just needed one more match."
The Violets will return to action on Wednesday, April 13, when they travel to Ewing, NJ, to take on The College of New Jersey beginning at 3:30 pm.
