Men's Tennis Drops Spring Season Opener

Violets Fall at Swarthmore 8-1

Match-By-Match Results

The New York University men's tennis team was defeated by Swarthmore College 8-1 on Saturday, February 27, in Swarthmore, PA, in the 2016 spring season opener for the Violets.

NYU's lone victory was produced by Yanik Parsch. Competing at #5 singles, the freshman posted a straight-set victory over Swarthmore's Josh Powell by scores of 7-6 (5), 6-4.  Parsch also played #2 doubles with junior teammate Matt DeMichiel, with the pair falling 8-5.

"Yanik was certainly a bright spot for us. He played a really solid match," said NYU Head Coach Horace Choy. "I was happy to see him get his first collegiate dual-match win."

The Violets #1 doubles pair of freshman Benedict Teoh and junior Sammy Aronson also lost a close 8-5 match.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- DeMichiel, also playing at #3 singles, lost a very tight two-set match 7-5, 7-6 (1) to Ari Cepelewicz.

- NYU entered the match ranked #14 in the Northeast Region, while Swarthmore is currently #7.

"We got off to a slow start, but still competed well," Choy explained. "I think we're a better team than that, but it didn't show in the result today."

The Violets return to the court on Saturday, March 5, when they travel to Saratoga Spring, NY, to face Skidmore College. First serve is set for 11:00 am.
