The New York University men's soccer team was defeated by Carnegie Mellon University 3-0 on Saturday, October 8, at Gaelic Park in Manhattan.
CMU scored all of its goals early in the second half and improved to 9-1-1 on the season and 1-0-1 in University Athletic Association (UAA) play. NYU dropped to 4-4-2 overall and 1-1-0 in UAA action.
"We lost a player to a broken nose early in the second half and it shifted the momentum," said NYU Head Coach
Kim Wyant. "Carnegie Mellon is a good team and they took full advantage of it.
The Tartans' three goals came during a four-minute span. CMU's first tally came after the visitors won a scrum in the box and Zach Misciopinto found the back of the net. Misciopinto doubled the lead minutes later, heading in a cross from teammate Philip Petrakian. The final Tartans' goal was scored by Ryan Stinebaugh, who rebounded his own shot that was initially saved by NYU goalkeeper
Lucas Doucette.
"Basically, we had a bad five minutes," added Wyant.
Doucette recorded eight saves in the loss, while CMU goalkeeper Alec Lam made four to earn the shutout.
"We were able to get a lot of players in the game at different positions," concluded Wyant. "We played a good first half and we need to look at the positives from this game and use them going foward."
NYU will return to action on Monday, October 10, when the Violets take on local-rival Baruch College. Kickoff for the road contest is slated for 6:00pm on Randall's Island.
