The New York University women's soccer team fell 1-0 in its University Athletic Association (UAA) home opener to Carnegie Mellon University on Saturday, October 8, at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.
NYU, ranked 23rd in the most recent National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll, dropped to 7-2-2 on the season and 0-1-1 in UAA action, while the Tartans improved to 7-3-1 overall and 1-1-0 in UAA play.
Halli Adams connected on the game's only goal early in the second half (51:44) for the Tartans. She received a pass from teammate Sienna Stritter just across the midfield line and dribbled a bit before firing a rocket past the outstretched arms of NYU goalkeeper
Cassie Steinberg.
Steinberg made seven saves in the contest, including six in the second half.
NYU was led offensively by
Alex Benedict, who recorded three of the Violets' six shots on goal.
"We need to find the positives from this game and build on them going forward," said NYU Head Coach
Michele Canning.
The Violets will return to action on Friday, October 14, when they travel to Washington University in St. Louis for a 5:30 (CT) UAA kickoff.
