The New York University women's soccer team earned a 1-1 tie against Emory University in University Athletic Association (UAA) action on Sunday, October 30, at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.
NYU is now 10-3-4 on the season and 1-2-3 in UAA play, while the visiting Eagles' record now stands at 9-5-2 overall and 2-2-2 in the UAA.
The Violets opened the scoring 12:38 into the contest on a goal from
Teressa Fazio.
Marquel Love dribbled down the right side of the field and beat her defender to create a 2-on-1 opportunity. Love caused the defender to play her and found Fazio in front to give NYU a 1-0 lead.
Emory had a chance to tie the game early in the second half, but failed to convert on a corner kick.
The Eagles did tie the game, however, with just over 15 minutes left in regulation when they connected on a corner kick. Shivanni Beal crossed the ball in from the corner and Caroline Kolski headed it in the net to tie the contest.
The only shot in either overtime period came from Emory, but it was saved by NYU goalkeeper
Cassie Steinberg.
"I thought we showed a lot of grit today," said NYU Head Coach
Michele Canning. "Playing a double-overtime game in your second match of the weekend is not easy, but the girls competed."

- Fazio's goal was her team-best seventh of the season. The junior also leads the squad with 20 points.
