The New York University women's tennis team defeated the University of Rochester 5-4 in the final round of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship on Saturday, April 25. The competition was held at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, FL.
The #8-seeded Violets got off to a good start against the #7-seeded Yellowjackets during doubles play, coming away with a win by
Carmen Lai and
Laila El Dessouki (8-5) at #1 doubles. However, Rochester finished doubles play with a 2-1 lead.
In singles play, the Violets won four of six matches to seal the close victory. Those wins were highlighted by El Dessouki's three-set. match-clinching victory at #3.
"I am very proud of our effort today," said NYU Head Coach
Horace Choy. "We were down 4-2 at one point and we showed great resolve to come back and pull out the match in the end."
The Violets finish their 2014-15 season with a 5-6 record.
