The New York University women's tennis team lost to University Athletic Association (UAA) rival Brandeis University 6-3 on Saturday, April 18, in Waltham, MA.
In #1 doubles, the pair of junior
Carmen Lai and sophomore
Laila El Dessouki lost their first match of the dual season. However, senior
Mari Tzakis and junior
Madeline King earned a 9-7 win over Brandeis' Dylan Schlesinger and Maya Vasser in #2 doubles and headed into singles play down just 2-1.
In singles play, El Dessouki (#3) and King (#4) picked up wins for NYU, but Brandeis held on and earned the victory. The Judges improved to 10-8 on the season, while the Violets dropped to 4-4.
"This was a typical UAA matchup," said NYU Head Coach
Horace Choy. "It was a battle all the way until the end."
OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:- Lai (#1) and freshman
Nicole Schnabel (#5) each played competitive, three-set singles matches. Lai was defeated by Carley Cooke 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (5), while Schnabel lost to Vasser 6-3, 2-6, 6-2.
The Violets return to the court for the UAA Championship on Thursday, April 23, in Sanlando Park, FL.
