Women's Tennis Defeats William Smith

Violets Improve to 2-1

The New York University women's tennis team defeated William Smith College 5-4 on Sunday, March 29, at the Stadium Tennis Center in the Bronx, NY.

NYU honored its two seniors, Mari Tzakis and Alexandra Ziarko, with pre-match ceremonies.

After dropping two of three doubles matches on Saturday, the Violets came out strong on Sunday and ended doubles play with a 3-0 lead.

"Sweeping doubles make things a lot easier." said NYU Head Coach Horace Choy. "It gave the team a lot of confidence."

In singles play, junior Carmen Lai and sophomore Laila El Dessouki picked up wins to help lead NYU to victory. The Violets improved to 2-1 in dual matches, while the Herons dropped to 3-4.

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:

- Lai and El Dessouki continued their dominant doubles season as well, defeating William Smith's Hannah More and Haley Wolf 8-2 from the #1 spot. The pair is now 3-0 on the season.

"Carmen and Laila continued their strong play this weekend, going 6-0, which was nice to see," added Choy.

The Violets return to the court on Wednesday, April 1, to face Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ. The match is scheduled to begin at 3:30 pm.
