Women's Tennis Drops Close Match to Rochester

Violets Fall to 1-1

The New York University women's tennis team lost to the University of Rochester 5-4 on Saturday, March 28, at the Stadium Tennis Club in the Bronx, NY.

NYU is now 1-1 on the season.

The Violets started out the contest strong, as junior Carmen Lai and sohpomore Laila El Dessouki won the #1 doubles match by a score of 8-1. However, the Yellowjackets won the next two doubles matches to take the lead heading into singles play.

"We had some chances to come out of the doubles up 2-1 or 3-0 and we let that slip away," said NYU Head Coach Horace Choy.

In singles play, Lai (#1) and El Dessouki (#3), as well as freshman Nicole Schnabel (#5), picked up victories for NYU, but Rochester held on to improve to 4-5 on the season.

"We had some good results from singles. But when you get down, it's hard to get back in it," added Choy.

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:

- Senior Mari Tzakis played in two competitive matches. The Miami, FL native dropped a close match in #2 singles (3-6, 6-1, 6-4) and in #2 doubles (8-6).

The VIolets return to the court tomorrow at the Stadium Tennis Club for a home match against William Smith College beginning at 10:00 am.
