Violets Drop 7-2 Decision to #23 Bears

The New York University softball team took an early lead, but couldn't hold on, dropping a 7-2 decision to Washington University-St. Louis in a University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship game on Wednesday, March 11, in Alamonte Springs, FL.

The Violets (0-8, 0-4 UAA) scored two runs in the top of the first, an inning highlighted by a double by Kahala Bonsignore and a single by Sage Scheiwiller. It was NYU's first lead of the Championship.

The #23-ranked (National Fastpitch Coaches Association) Bears (11-3, 3-1) came back with one run in the bottom of the first and would have had four more in the second if not for a grand-slam-robbing catch by NYU centerfielder Colby Tarsitano. She raced back and while fully extended grabbed the ball before tumbling over the fence.

"It gave us a boost, for sure," said Head Coach Now-Allah James. "But, as part of our growth, we have to use that momentum to score three, four, five runs. We didn't score any runs the next inning, so it gave the momentum back to them."

Indeed, NYU's lead didn't last much longer as the Bears scored four runs in the third inning off of startere Samantha Block. Scheiwiller pitched the final 3.2 innings, allowing only two runs in the sixth.

"This was one of our best game so far," James added. "We are battling. At some point, we're gonna get someone. We're getting better every day."

NOTABLES:

- Rachel Fulton was a perfect 2-for-2, including her first double of the season. She entered the contest at second base when Scheiwiller moved to pitcher. r.

- Marisa Bella was 1-for-3 on the day including a stolen base.

The Violets return to action tomorrow when they face Case Western Reserve University at 10:00 am and . Live stats will be available.
