The New York University baseball team's two-game winning streak was snapped by Washington University-St. Louis 10-0 on Wednesday, March 11, at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship in Sanford, FL.
The Violets are now 3-4 overall and 2-2 at the Championship. The Bears are 3-3 overall and 2-2 in UAA play.
Things did not start off well for NYU, as WashU's Chris Lowery hit a two-run home run off Violets' starter
Jarret Weiss in the first inning. Things got worse in the next frame as the Bears put up a five-spot.
"Jarret was having trouble with first-pitch strikes and we just can't do that," said Head Coach
Doug Kimbler. "That set a bad tone for the game."
The rough start to the game followed a two-hour rain delay.
"The delay had nothing to do with our performance," Kimbler admitted. "It probably looked like it did, though."
NYU had several innings in which they put multiple runners on base, but the team could not get them around.
"We came down here to get better and to get everyone quality at bats," Kimbler said. "We just couldn't put anything together today."
The Violets totaled four hits in the contest.
