The New York University women's soccer team won its University Athletic Association (UAA) opener, defeating Case Western Reserve University 2-0 on Saturday, October 3, at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.
The victory was the seventh straight for NYU (8-1, 1-0 UAA). The Spartans (6-2-2, 0-1 UAA) had won two straight.
"I was really happy with our team's performance today. We looked really good on the ball and our combination plays were effective," said NYU Head Coach
Michele Canning.
Violets' senior forward
Melissa Menta opened the scoring with her third goal of the season at 28:29. She shot from outside the box and lifted it into the upper right corner of the net.
NYU's second goal was recorded by freshman forward
Megan Carver early in the second half. She dribbled to the edge of the box and managed to direct her shot past Spartan goalkeeper Sarah Newcomb at 56:54.
"The girls were really excited to get conference play started," Canning added. "It's nice to have that first game at home."

Lexi Clarke each had two shots on goal for NYU.

Cassie Steinberg did not need to record a save in notching her sixth shutout of the season.
The Violets return to the pitch this Monday, October 5, when they travel to face Brooklyn College at 6:00 pm.
