Women's Soccer Wins Eighth Straight

Violets Blank Brooklyn College 3-0

The New York University women's soccer team won its eighth straight game and posted its third straight shutout with a 3-0 win over Brooklyn College on Monday, October 5, in Brooklyn, NY.

Three different Violets tickled the twines as goalkeeper Cassie Steinberg posted her seventh shutout of the season.

Royce Light opened the scoring for NYU (9-1) at 22:42 on a header off an assist from Lexi Clarke.

The Violets quickly took a 2-0 lead over the Bulldogs (3-6-1) when Maddy Clappin connected on an unassisted goal into the top right corner of the net at 25:00.

McKennah Spagnola capped the scoring with another unassisted goal, this time midway through the second half (66:05).

"McKennah was really composed and beat the keeper with a slotted ball," said NYU Head Coach Michele Canning. "It's nice to have so many people scoring goals."

HIGHLIGHTS:

- For the second consecutive game, Steinberg did not need to record a save in posting the shutout.

- Spagnola's goal was her third of the season, tying her for the team lead.

- Clarke's assist was her second of the season, also tied for the team lead.

"Our ball movement was quick and sharp," Canning added. "We created a lot of dangerous chances in the final third."

The Violets return to action this Saturday, October 10, when they play their first University Athletic Association (UAA) road game of the season.  The squad will be in Pittsburgh, PA, for an 11:00am contest with Carnegie Mellon University.
