Women's Soccer Comes Away with Win over Centenary

Braender-Carr Scores Game's Lone Goal

The New York Univeristy women's soccer team defeated Centenary College 1-0 on Monday night, October 26, at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.

Despite not converting on the majority of their chances, the VIolets (11-4) controlled the pace of play all night en route to their victory over the Cyclones (7-8-2). NYU outshot Centenary 34-2, including 14-0 in shots on goal.

"We're happy about the improved movement in the final third, although I was a little dissapointed we didn't finish more of our chances," said NYU Head Coach Michele Canning. "We were unlucky a couple of times, but we were happy with the amount of chances we created."

Olivia Braender-Carr scored the only goal on the night in the 24th minute after the ball ricocheted to her in the top left of the box. The sophomore forward was the beneficiary of a scramble in front of the Cyclone net following a NYU cross attempt.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Cassie Steinberg came away with her ninth shutout of the season and is second on the NYU career list with 21.

- Lexi Clarke and Braender-Carr led all players with eight total shots. The pair, along with Melissa Menta, Megan Carver, Teressa Fazio, and McKennah Spagnola, all attempted two shots on goal.

- Cyclone keeper Hannah Walsh recorded 12 stops on the night.

The game was the final home contest of the regular season for the Violets. They will return to action on Friday, October 30, when they travel north to Rochester, NY, for a scheduled 5:00 pm contest with the University of Rochester.
