Women's Fencing Team Defeated at Brandeis

RESULTS

The New York University women's fencing team dropped a 16-11 decision to Brandeis University on Saturday, January 31, in Waltham, MA.

The Violets, now 1-13 this season, were victorious in foil (5-4), but were defeated by their University Athletic Association (UAA) opponent in both epee (5-4) and sabre (7-2).

NYU captured the foil competition on the strength of two wins each by Stephanie Lo and Kelly Morris, and a fifth victory from Yasmeen Omer.

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:

- Cydney Williams recorded both sabre victories for the Violets.

- Alyssa Parkhurst won two epee bouts for NYU, while Cailyn Chiah and Ruby Kam each had one.

"Today's competition was used primarily as an opportunity to give some of our non-starters a chance to gain some experience and add bouts that they may need to qualify for NCAA Regionals at the end of the season," said NYU Head Coach Steve Mormando. "Both teams used the same philosophy today, and both will be competing again tomorrow so in this way our starters stay fresh."

The Violets get right back on the strip tomorrow when they compete at the Eric Sollee Invitational at MIT beginning at 9:00 am in Cambridge, MA.
