The New York University men's soccer team defeated Brooklyn College by a score of 3-1 on Friday, September 6, at Brooklyn College Field in Brooklyn, NY. With the victory, NYU (3-0) stays perfect on the young season while Brooklyn falls to 1-2.
Playing shorthanded for more than half the game due to a
Forrest Sexton red card in the 35th minute, the Violets managed to still allow just one goal and six shots on goal fin total, while netting three and putting 11 shots on target of their own.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Reece Barton, who netted two goals in each of NYU's first two contests, opened the scoring against Brooklyn by tallying his fifth of the season on a penalty kick with just 10:32 gone by.
- NYU expanded its lead to 2-0 in the 21st minute when Tim Goldman scored his first goal as a Violet off the rebound of a free kick by
Mac Yumoto. Yumoto's assist gives him a team-leading three on the season.
- The lone Bulldog goal was scored via penalty kick by Dmitry Prokofyev following a red card on
Forrest Sexton in the 35th minute.
- The 2-1 halftime score held up until
Tino Kardassis struck for NYU's third goal (and his first of the season) in the 78th minute. The goal came via a cross on a Petter Aasa free kick and put the final margin at 3-1.
"Our players worked hard and managed the game well today," said Head Coach
Joe Behan. "It was a good win on the road, especially considering we played the entire second half a man down."
NYU returns to the field for a home game against the College of Staten Island on Saturday, September 7, at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY. Kick-off is set for 7:00 PM.
