Men's Soccer Bests Hunter 3-1

Violets Improve to 6-1-0

McNitt-Gray notched his second and third goals of the season.

The New York University men's soccer team defeated Hunter College by a score of 3-1 on Wedensday, September 18, at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY. With the win, NYU improves to 6-1-0, while Hunter falls to 0-8-0.

The game remained tied through halftime despite NYU dominating possession and outshooting the Hawks by a margin of 9-2 in the first half. The Violets would expand that shooting advantage to 25-6 for the game, and were able to pull away with three second-half goals.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- After a scoreless first half, Nimo Bergstroem broke through with NYU's first goal in the game's 48th minute, scoring from close in the box off a deflection.

- The next NYU goal came courtesy of Shawn McNitt-Gray, who received a Reece Barton cross to net his second of the season in the 58th minute.

-McNitt-Gray would add his third score of the season, and the Violets' third of the game, assisted by skillfull passing from Bergstroem and Colm Dillane.

- The NYU defense allowed the Hawks to take only four shots on target. The lone Hunter goal came after a Mac Yumoto yellow card led to a penalty kick by Hunter's George Osaris. Violet goalkeeper Lucas Doucette managed to save the penalty kick, but Osaris was able to collect his own rebound and put it past the NYU keeper for the score.

The Violets return to the field on Tuesday, September 24, as they travel to Kings Point, NY, to face the United States Merchant Marine Academy. Kick-off is set for 7:45 PM.
