Box Score

The New York University men's soccer team opened its season with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Baruch College at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY, on Saturday, August 31. NYU is now 1-0 on the young season, while the Bearcats fell to 0-1.

The Violets trailed by a goal with just over 12 minutes to play when freshman Reece Barton scored the first two goals of his collegiate career to give NYU the 3-2 advantage that would represent the final margin. It was the Violets' first lead of the day, as they battled back from 1-0 and 2-1 defecits before securing the victory.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- The game's first goal came in the 31st minute, as Baruch's Kevin Romero put one past NYU goalkeeper Forrest Sexton at the 30:25 mark.

- Violet senior Joseph Lee would quickly respond with a goal of his own, tying the game at 1-1 at the 32:31 mark.

- After heading into the half at a 1-1 stalemate, the Violets controlled possesion for much of the early part of the first half, and narrowly missed a scoring opportunity when a Mac Yumoto free kick was deflected just over the bar in the 55th minute.

- The Bearcats regained a 2-1 advantage when Oren Kozlowski headed in a Victor Tlepshev cross at 63:09.

- Barton tied the game 2-2 as he received a cross from senior Chris Ramirez and headed it in for a goal at 72:42.

- Barton's heroics continued as he made a run down the left side and scored what would be the game-winning goal with just 6:36 remaining

The Violets return to the field on Sunday, September 1, to play their first road game of the season vs. NYU-Poly in Brooklyn, NY. The game is set to kick off at 6:00 PM.
