Women's Tennis Suffers Another Loss at UAA Championship

NYU Falls 8-1 to Case Western

Tzakis earned a win at #3 singles.
The New York University women's tennis team continued play at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship with an 8-1 loss to Case Western Reserve University on Friday, April 26, in Altamonte Springs, FL.

NYU (5-5), the #8 seed in the UAA Championship, came into the consolation semifinal match after dropping its opening round match to top seed Emory University 9-0 on Thursday.

The #5 seed Spartans (11-8) are ranked #22 in the country in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III national rankings. They dropped their opening match to #4 seed University of Chicago 8-1 on Thursday.

Highlights

- Mari Tzakis recorded the Violets' lone victory, defeating Taylor Sweeney in straight sets (6-4, 7-5) at #3 singles.

- Ashley Masanto and Alison Wang forced a tiebreak in the #1 doubles match before falling 9-8 (5).

"We fought hard," said Head Coach Horace Choy. "We had our chances at #1 doubles, but they pulled it out. Mari played a good match to win, but we came up short in our other matches."

NYU will conclude its season with the seventh-place match on Saturday at 9:00 am. The Violets will face off against either the University of Rochester or Brandeis University.
