Women's Fencing Team Competes in Eric Sollee Invitational at MIT

NYU Wins First Two Contests During 2-4 Finish

Audra Fox went 15-3 to lead the Violets in victories.
The New York University women's fencing team competed in the Eric Sollee Invitational, hosted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on Sunday, February 3, in Cambridge, MA.

NYU won its first two matches, defeating Haverford College 20-7 and MIT 14-13. Overall, the Violets finished with a 2-4 record on the day.

NYU was defeated by their other four opponents. The Violets fell to Brandeis University 15-12, Duke University 19-8, Brown University 23-4, and Boston College 15-12.

Highlights:
-Audra Fox started off her day by winning her first eight bouts and led the team in victories as she finished 15-3 in foil.

-Jackie Leval also earned double digit victories, by going 12-6 in sabre.

-Rebecca Popkin also had a strong day in foil, earning nine victories.

"I thought the individual results were fantastic, particularly for foil," said Head Coach Steve Mormando. "Audra Fox had a great weekend for us and there's some other really strong individual performances we can build off of."

The Violets return to action on Thursday, February 7, when they host a quad meet at the Jerome Coles Sports Center in Manhattan. The team will celebrate family day, and play host to Vassar College, Columbia University and Sacred Heart University.
