The New York University men's tennis team easily defeated Drew University 8-1 on Thursday, February 28, in Madison, NJ.

NYU swept its opponent in singles and added a pair of doubles victories. It was the first victory of the young season for the Violets, who improved to 1-1.

NYU was led by CJ Leong and Steven Wu, who each earned a singles victory while also teaming for a win in the #2 doubles match.

Every member of the Violets who competed on Thursday was able to earn at least one win for the team.

Highlights:

- James Dean swept his opponent in the #5 singles match by the score of 6-0, 6-0.

- Harveer Bhalla earned a comeback victory in the #1 singles match.  After dropping the first set, he rebounded for a 4-6, 6-0, 6-3 win.

- William Smithline and Ting Yee Lai contributed a victory in the #3 doubles match, defeating their opponents 8-2.

"We showed we were the deeper team today," said Head Coach Horace Choy.  "We had more depth, which really showed up on the back-half of our lineup."

The Violets return to action this weekend when they head up north to take on Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY, on Saturday, March 2.
