The New York University women's tennis team finished a busy weekend with a 7-2 loss to Swarthmore College on Sunday, February 24, in Swarthmore, PA.

In a match that was closer than the score would indicate, the Violets won a pair of singles contests while dropping two others that featured tie-breaks.

Mari Tzakis won in a #3 singles match that featured a tie-break, defeating Kelsey Johnson of Swarthmore 7-5, 2-6, 7-6 (9-7).

Jazmin Colling was the other individual winner for NYU, as she earned a 6-3, 6-3 victory in straight sets in the #5 singles match.

Additional Highlights:

-Ashley Masanto lost in the #1 singles match after forcing a first set tie-break. The score was 7-6 (8-6), 6-2.

-After picking up two wins on Saturday, Alison Wang narrowly lost the #2 singles match 7-6 (8-6), 6-4.

“We forced the tie-breakers in a few of our matches”, said Head Coach Horace Choy. “Had we pulled those out, things could have been different, but we seemed to lose a little momentum after those losses.”

The team returns to action on Sunday, March 24, for a 12:00 pm match against The College of New Jersey. This contest will be the Violets' first home match, which will be played at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing, NY.
