The New York University men's tennis team opened its 2013 spring schedule with a 6-3 loss to Swarthmore College on Saturday, February 23, in Swarthmore, PA.
The Violets got off to a good start by winning two of the three doubles matches. However, NYU only won one of the six singles matches in falling to #23 Swarthmore.
CJ Leong was the Violets' only double-winner. The sophomore won his #4 singles match in straight sets 6-2, 6-3. He also teamed with junior
Steven Wu to win at #2 doubles 9-7.
HIGHLIGHTS:

Aaron Meltzer defeated their opponents 8-6.
- The Violets' only loss in doubles was by a close 8-5 decision at #3. Competing for NYU were William Smithline and
Ting Yee Lai
- After dropping the first set at #3 singles, Meltzer rebounded for a 6-0 win in the second set before dropping a 6-3 decision in the third and final set.
"We got off to a good start, but didn't take advantage of all the opportunities we had," said Head Coach
Horace Choy. "Swarthmore is a really good team and we need to capitaliize on our chances."
The team returns to action on Thursday, February 28, for a 4:30pm match against Drew University in Madison, NJ.
