The New York University men's soccer team fell in its regular-season home finale 2-1 to Washington University in St. Louis on Sunday, November 3, at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.

After the Bears' Michael Flowers scored on a penalty kick at the 37:50 mark of the first half, the Violets' Colm Dillane tied the game at 1-1 with a penalty kick of his own at 40:15.

Neither team was able to score again until Washington's Jake Shapiro managed the game-winner on an assist from Grant Baltes with just under five minutes left to play (85:12).

It was the third consecutive loss for the Violets, who dropped to 6-7-3 overall and to 0-5-1 in the University Athletic Association (UAA). Washington is now 9-4-3 overall and 2-2-2 in the UAA.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- NYU goalkeeper Lucas Doucette made four saves in the contest.

- Washington's Jonathan Jebson recorded two saves.

- The Bears outshot the Violets 18-10 overall.

- Prior to the game, a ceremony was held to honor NYU's seven graduating seniors: Ian Cassell, Colm Dillane, Tino Kardassis, Joseph Lee, Chris Ramirez, Juan Velez, and Danny Weisbaum.

The Violets play their final regular season game of the 2013 campaign on Saturday, November 9, when they face UAA-opponent Brandeis University in Waltham, MA. Kickoff is set for 12:00pm.
