Men's Soccer Plays to 2-2 Draw against NJCU

Violets Break Three-Game Scoreless Streak

Doucette made six saves in 110 minutes in net.

The New York University men's soccer team fought hard against New Jersey City University on Tuesday, October 8, playing to a 2-2 draw in two overtime periods at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.

NYU (6-3-2) jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one half of play, but the Gothic Knights (5-5-1) knotted it up to force overtime in the second. In total, the gritty contest saw the two squads combine for six yellow cards (three each) and a red card (NYU).

The Violets would hold their ground late defensively in order to preserve the tie, playing the final 39:32 down one man.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Freshman forward Reece Barton scored his sixth goal of the season in the 11th minute to snap NYU's three-game scoreless streak, kicking off the offense for the contest. Barton received a yellow card in the 67th minute and a red card after his second infraction in the 70th minute.

- Sophomore forward Shawn McNitt-Gray notched his fourth goal of the season to put the Violets up 2-0 in the 34th minute.

- Freshman defender Guy Fenton attempted two shots and received a yellow card in the 50th minute.

- Sophomore midfielder Kelechukwu Eboh attempted two of NYU's 21 shots, while receiving a yellow card in the 109th minute.

- Freshman goalkeeper Lucas Doucette played all 110:00 in net for the Violets, making six saves during the contest.

NYU will be back on the field when it returns to Gaelic Park on Saturday, October 12, for a University Athletic Association (UAA) battle with Case Western Reserve University. Kickoff is scheduled for 11:00 AM.
