The New York University men's soccer team dropped a 3-2 heartbreaker on Sunday, October 20, against University Athletic Association (UAA) foe #23 Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA.
The Violets (6-5-3, 0-3-1 UAA) held a 2-0 lead until the 65th minute of the game, when the Tartans (10-2-1, 3-1-0) put one past freshman keeper Lucas Doucette to bring the game within one. Carnegie Mellon would go on to score two more in the next 13 minutes to take the lead and eventually notch the 3-2 victory over NYU.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Senior midfielder
Colm Dillane starred for the Violets, factoring into each goal. He scored the first of the game, his third of the season, to give NYU the early 1-0 lead in the fourth minute. Then, in the sixth minute, he earned the assist on the Violets' second score of the game.
- Junior midfielder
Mickey Ingerman scored his first goal of the season in the sixth minute, giving NYU the early 2-0 lead at the time.
- Defender Jerome Reano led the Tartans, scoring the go-ahead goal while adding an assist.
The Violets are off for two weeks before returning to the field to host the University of Chicago on Friday, November 1, at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY. NYU then hosts Washington University for Senior/Family Day on Sunday, November 3. Those final two home regular season games of 2013 will kickoff at 11:00am.
