#6 Men's Soccer Wins UAA Opener, Improves to 9-0

Green Scores Twice to Lead Violets at Case

Horch set up Green's second goal with a perfectly-placed ball in front.
Box Score

The sixth-ranked New York University men's soccer team stayed undefeated with a 3-1 victory over Case Western Reserve University in its University Athletic Association (UAA) opener on Saturday, September 29, in Cleveland, OH.

Kyle Green led the way with two goals, and Niki Chow netted the game winner on a penalty kick just before halftime. With the win, the Violets improved to 9-0 on the season – continuing the best start in school history – and 1-0 in the UAA, while dropping the Spartans to 3-6-1 and 0-1 in the UAA.

Highlights

- Green gave NYU an early lead just 7:21 in, chasing down a ball in the box from Mickey Ingerman and tapping it over Case goalkeeper Ryan Koepka and into the back of the net.

- The strike came just a minute after Paolo Luciano narrowly missed a goal on a similar play. He tracked down a long ball and lofted it over Koepka, but a Spartan defender knocked it off the line at the last moment.

- Case knotted things up in the 34th minute, when Chris Cvecko tapped a shot in after a 50/50 ball in front found him. The goal was just the third scored against the Violets all season and snapped their streak of consecutive shutout minutes at 501:17.

- It didn't take long for NYU to go back on top, however, as Green was brought down in the box with just 1:48 left in the half. Chow stepped up and buried the PK, his third penalty-kick goal of the season.

- In a tightly-contested second half, Green put the game away in the 78th minute. Ryan Horch played a fantastic ball into the box from the left sideline, which Green headed in for his eighth tally of the season.

“I thought we played very well,” said Head Coach Joe Behan. “They did send in a couple of dangerous balls but couldn't convert. Kyle was outstanding today – he was the man of the match.”

The #6 Violets return to action on Wednesday, October 3, for a non-conference tilt at New Jersey City University. Game time is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
