Brandeis University defeated the NYU women's tennis team 9-0 on the second day of competition at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Women's Tennis Championship in Altamonte Springs, FL.
The eighth-seeded Violets will return to the court tonight to face #7 Case Western Reserve University in the seventh-place match.
On Saturday, Brandeis stormed to an early 3-0 lead, sweeping the morning's doubles slate.
Megan Moore and
Ramya Pokala lost 8-2 at #1,
Haley Mears and
Alexandra Ziarko were defeated 8-3 at #2, and NYU gave a walkover in the #3 slot due to lack of players.
Heading into singles competition, Brandeis only needed two victories to advance past NYU. At first singles, Pokala lost 6-1, 6-0. Ziarko lost at #2 by a score of 6-3, 7-6 (2) to give Brandies the victory. At #3 and #4, Moore and Mears both fought hard before falling in three sets.
The NYU-Case Western Reserve match is set to begin at 5:00 pm.
