The New York University women's fencing team competed in the Vassar Invitational, hosted by Vassar College on Saturday, December 1, in
Poughkeepsie, NY.
NYU finished 0-7 on the day, despite a strong showing from
Jackie Leval. The Violets lost to the University of Pennsylvania 20-7, Penn State University 19-8, University of North Carolina 18-9, Harvard University 20-7, Princeton University 25-2, Temple University 20-7, and Sacred Heart University 14-13.
Highlights:
-In sabre, Leval had an impressive day, going 15-3 overall for the Violets. She went undefeated in matches against Sacred Heart, Temple, Penn State, North Carolina, and Harvard.
-In foil,
Audra Fox had a strong showing, finishing 12-6 overall.
-The Violets narrowly lost a close battle against Sacred Heart that would have provided them with their lone victory.
The Violets return to team competition when they host the NYU Invitational at the Coles Sports Center on Sunday, January 27.
