The New York University men's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking 1-0 defeat in double overtime against Emory University on Sunday, October 28, at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.
The Eagles (9-6-2, 3-2-1) scored the game winner just 24 seconds into the second overtime period.
Highlights
- Nimo Freitag Bergstroem had the Violets' (10-6-1, 2-3-1) best chance late in the first overtime.
Kyle Green played a short pass to Freitag Bergstroem, who ripped a shot that was stopped by the diving keeper.
- Freitag Bergstroem also made a big defensive play late in the first half. Andrew Natalino headed a corner at goal, but Freitag Bergstroem headed it off the end line to keep things scoreless.
- Goalkeeper
Jonas Poster made several big stops, including one in the final seconds of the first OT. Natalino collected a long ball over the top and blasted a hard shot that Poster held on to.
- The Eagles ended the game 24 seconds into the second extra session, when Natalino made a run past midfield and played a cross to Michael Rheaume, who buried it to the far left post.
- Poster finished with four saves between the pipes, while Abe Hannigan made three stops for Emory.
The Violets wrap up the 2012 regular season on Saturday, November 3, when they host rival Brandeis University at Gaelic Park. The game, which is also a Tear It Up! event, begins at 1:30 pm.
