Men's Soccer Falls to #6 Carnegie Mellon

Violets Dropped 4-1 by Tartans

The New York University men's soccer team was defeated 4-1 by sixth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University in University Athletic Association (UAA) action on Friday, October 26, at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.
 
The Violets (10-5-1, 2-2-1) and Tartans (11-2-1, 3-1-1) entered the day tied with Brandeis University and Emory University for first place in the UAA. Brandeis beat Emory 3-1, leaving Carnegie Mellon and Brandeis tied atop the table with 10 points apiece. Washington University is in third with nine points, followed by NYU, Emory and the University of Chicago, all of which have seven points.
 
Highlights
 
- The Tartans took the lead in the 35th minute. Max Tassano played a pass ahead to Connor Webb, who made a great move to get free and placed a shot into the back of the net.
 
- Three minutes later, Carnegie Mellon expanded its lead to 2-0, as Cole Christensen headed in a corner kick from Ben Bryant.
 
- The Tartans made it 3-0 in the 60th minute. Jakob Rohwer sent a long throw-in forward, which bounced past the defense and found Max Tassano in the box. Tassano then flicked a shot inside the right post.
 
- NYU got on the board in the 64th minute on a penalty-kick goal. After a takedown in the box, Niki Chow converted the PK. The senior captain is 4-4 on penalties this season.
 
- Four minutes later, Carnegie Mellon went back up three goals. Bryant found Christensen in the corner, and he played a cross into the box that was one-timed in by Daniel Kursman-Neri.
 
The Violets are back in action on Sunday, October 28, when they host Emory at Gaelic Park. Game time is scheduled for 1:30 pm.
