Violets Bested by Richard Stockton

Chow's goal was his fifth of the season.
Box Score

The 19th-ranked New York University men's soccer team was defeated 2-1 in overtime by visiting Richard Stockton College on Monday, October 22, at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.

The Violets (10-4-1) tied the game early in the second half to force overtime, but the Ospreys (9-7-2) scored the winner in the 98th minute to hand NYU a loss in its regular-season non-conference finale.

Highlights

- After a scoreless first half, Richard Stockton took the lead just 3:06 into the second period. Anthony Fiorletti played a free kick from 40 yards out into the box, which Chris Katona headed in.

- The Violets needed just eight minutes to tie the score, also on a long free. Tino Kardassis played the free kick into the box, which took a bounce and was flicked back into the middle by Kyle Green. Niki Chow then buried it to knot things at 1-1.

- Though NYU was putting significant pressure on the Ospreys the rest of the game and in overtime, Richard Stockton won it on a counter in the extra session. Katona played a penetrating ball forward, and Pat Rafferty made a run in behind the defense and scored on a 1v1 against goalkeeper Jonas Poster.

- The Violets outshot the Ospreys 20-11 and held an 8-5 edge in corners. Poster totaled seven saves in goal, while Bob Millar made five stops for Richard Stockton.

With its non-conference slate concluded, NYU has three home University Athletic Association (UAA) contests left. All three will come against the teams that the Violets are tied with for first place in the standings, beginning with #8 Carnegie Mellon University on Friday, October 26, at 1:30 pm at Gaelic Park.
