The NYU women's tennis team was dealt a 9-0 setback by the University of Rochester on Saturday, April 9, at the Stadium Tennis Center at Mill Pond in Bronx, NY.
In doubles action, Violet senior
Elizabeth Stachtiaris teamed with sophomore
Ariel Sultan in an 8-5 loss in the first slot. At #2 doubles, the senior tandem of
Liz Feldman and co-captain
Lisa Mijovic lost 8-3, while freshman
Ramya Pokala and senior co-captain
Sara Joo were defeated 8-5 in third doubles.
Rochester, the #25 team in the latest ITA Tennis DIII National Poll, did not make things easy for the Violets in singles competition either. Stachtiaris went down 6-3, 6-2 at #1, Feldman lost 6-1, 6-0 at #2, and Sultan lost 6-3, 6-1 at #3. In the fourth and sixth singles matches, Mijovic and Joo retired, respectively. Pokala lost her #5 match 6-0, 6-1.
NYU will hope to pick up its first win of the season when the team hosts SUNY Geneseo on April 16.
