The University of Rochester defeated the NYU women's tennis team 5-0 on the second day of competition at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Women's Tennis Championships. The eighth-seeded Violets (1-10) will return to the court tonight to face #7 Case Western Reserve University in the seventh-place match.
On Saturday, Rochester (14-4) stormed to an early 3-0 lead, sweeping the morning's doubles slate.
Elizabeth Stachtiaris and
Ariel Sultan lost 8-1 at #1,
Liz Feldman and
Lisa Mijovic were defeated 8-1 at #2, and at third singles,
Ramya Pokala and
Sara Joo fell 8-3.
Heading into singles competition, Rochester only needed two victories to advance past NYU. At first singles, Stachtiaris, a senior for NYU, lost 6-2, 6-3. Feldman, also a Violet senior, lost at #2 by a score of 6-2, 6-1 to give Rocehster its fifth match victory.
NYU is set to face Case Western today at 4:00 pm. Case (8-8) is coming off a loss to Brandeis University.
This will be the last match for four NYU seniors: Feldman, Mijovic (co-captain), Stachtiaris, and Joo (co-captain).
