New York University sophomore
Ariel Sultan picked up the only victory for the Violets in Saturday's home match against Brandeis University. NYU (0-5) lost 8-1 at Mill Pond in the Bronx.
Brandeis, ranked #30 in the latest ITA Women's Division III National Poll, was able to hold off a fiesty NYU squad that kept matches a lot closer than the final score indicated.
Sultan lost her second set at #3 singles before compiling a 6-4, 4-6, 12-10 victory against Mackenzie Gallegos of Brandeis.
In other singles action, NYU senior
Elizabeth Stachtiaris lost 6-1, 6-4 in the #1 slot while senior co-captain
Lisa Mijovic fell 6-3, 6-4 at fourth singles. Freshman
Ramya Pokala lost 6-2, 6-4 at #5 singles.
Pokala also teamed with senior co-captain
Sara Joo in a highly-contested #3 doubles match, but could not come out on top of an 8-6 decision.
The Violets conclude their busy weekend on Sunday, hosting William Smith College as part of their Family Day festivities. Tomorrow's match is set to begin at 11:00 am at the Stadium Tennis Center at Mill Pond in the Bronx.
